Repeal LEOBOR

How do you want to get involved?

What is LEOBOR?

The Law Enforcement Officer's Bill of Rights (LEOBoR) is a series of laws and protections offered to all police officers across Rhode Island. Over the past several decades, LEOBoR has been used as a tool by officers, to avoid reasonable and justified reprimand for police brutality and misconduct that they have inflicted on the public at large. Along with protecting officers, LEOBoR has prevented elected officials and chiefs of police from removing bad officers or being transparent in the process that is LEOBoR.

BLM RI PAC was founded on the principle of police accountability and transparency. LEOBoR stands in the way of providing quality and equitable policing to communities across the state, therefore we demand that LEOBoR be repealed in its entirety.

Dear Chair Kraven and Members of the House Judiciary Committee,

My name is [YOUR NAME HERE] and I am resident of [YOUR TOWN HERE]. I'm here writing to express my support for H5567, which repeals Rhode Island's Law Enforcement Officers Bill of Rights.

Currently, the Law Enforcement Officers' Bill of Rights give special rights to police offers that ordinary people do not have, it prevents communities from having a transparent investigation into police misconduct. As a result it makes it impossible for police chiefs and municipalities to hold their officers accountable after incidents take place.

[ANY PERSONAL/ PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE WITH POLICE YOU MAY HAVE]

In order for there to be trust in our judicial system, police accountability may be possible and transparent for the public. I call on you to pass H5567 and repeal LEOBOR without delay or amendment.

Sincerely,
[YOUR NAME]
